Discipleship: Day 6
Joshua 1:8 "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
This is God's first commandment to Joshua after the death of Moses.
God is telling Joshua how to have good success. If Joshua didn’t have any accountability, God would not have told him to do certain things to have good success would He?
God told Joshua to keep the book of the law in his mouth. Have you ever considered that? God's Word must not depart from your mouth. You notice He didn’t say this Book of the Law shall not depart from your mind, but rather your mouth. Why is that? I believe speaking God's Word affirms the truth that we know and deeply engrains this truth into our spirit in such a way as to cause us to receive this truth supernaturally. I know this sounds like a mouthful but God told Joshua to do it as part of His instruction to good success. I think He knows what He is talking about don't you? He also has our best interests at heart when He is giving us instructions of any kind.
Jesus said in the book of Matthew..
Matthew 12:34 "Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
- "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
We can’t let out hearts get full of the wrong things. In order to prevent that from happening, we must not allow our minds to spend too much time on things that are lawful but at the same time not expedient. Too much ice cream can be a bad thing. Too much of any good thing can be bad for you. So, enough said.
We have control over our thoughts, and our thoughts have control over our faith, and our faith has control over our destiny.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy meditate on these things.
The Apostle Paul is telling us what to think on, or literally to meditate on these things.
This is part of the growing process, there are no shortcuts in the things of God, and the rewards are worth the effort.
Confession:
God’s Word shall not depart from my mouth, I will meditate in it day and night so that I may observe to do according to what is written therein. Because of this, my way will be made prosperous and I will have good success.
