Discipleship: Day 7

Psalms 15:4  In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the Lord; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

A characteristic of a mature disciple in Christ is one who will swear to his own hurt or harm and not change, in other words, one who keeps his or her word regardless of the consequences. Too many Christians say what ever is convenient at that moment without realizing the negative consequences they are causing.

We all have seen Christians who are unconcerned about their words and never consider the real importance of idle talk or negative words. God’s Word has much to say about this, and God has put a premium on words so we should learn to do so as well.

It goes on to say in vs. 5 that this person shall never be moved. People are so careless about their words that they can not truly have confidence in what they themselves say.   How can you speak the word of God with authority and expect it to come to pass if you have no confidence in your own words? The answer to that is that you cannot.

People often blame God for their failures, get frustrated, and will not admit that the problem is not with God but with them. We can not grow up if we will not acknowledge the truth, and if we do not acknowledge the truth, we can never be truly free in Christ.

Some people think that a little white lie is no big deal, but that is not what the Word of God says.

If we don’t keep our word, it will affect our entire spiritual life. Tell the truth regardless. If you aren’t glad to see someone don’t tell them that you are. You can find a way to say something nice, without saying something negative if you try. You don’t have to lie to try and be nice. Lying is of the devil and will affect your faith. God always keeps His word and He expects His children to do the same.

Confession:

I am a person of integrity and my word is my bond.  I will speak the truth and not change.
