Stewardship: Day 24
Genesis 14:18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.
- And he blessed him and said, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High and Abram, maker of heaven and earth;
- And blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!" And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Melchizedek is a type of the Lord Jesus Christ. As the priest of the most high God, he confirmed God’s covenant with Abram by partaking of bread and wine. God was faithful to fulfill His commitment to Abram by giving him victory over his enemies, and restoring all that had been taken from him and his nephew Lot. Out of the gratitude of Abram’s heart, his response to his part of the covenant was to give a tenth of all that was recovered. What is more, he was also acknowledging God’s role as having complete control over his and his family’s lives, as well as all his possessions.
Abram had a willing heart, opening a doorway for God’s abundant provision. How much more should we as Christians, with a new and better covenant than Abram be willing to fulfill the role given to us as our part of the Covenant God established through the Lord Jesus Christ?
Through Abraham, the father of our faith, God established this covenant and principal of giving. As Christians, we are the seed of Abraham, and joint heirs with Christ. Our response to God’s love and provision in our lives, through this principal of giving, continually provides a doorway for God’s abundant blessings.
Confession:
I understand that God established a covenant and a principal of giving with Abram and his seed. As a Christian, I am a joint heir with Christ, and of the seed of Abraham. Through Christ, God has made provision for me to receive the abundant blessings of Abraham. I understand that by following this principal of giving, God will continually provide a doorway for me to receive His abundant provision and blessings throughout my entire life.
