Stewardship: Day 28
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Rom 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Here we see the nature of God, our Father. He is a most generous and giving God. We see that His giving is motivated by love and that He gave his very best for us. We also see that God gives with purpose. God made a great sacrifice providing for our salvation. We, as His sons and daughters, who are born of His Spirit have the same nature within us. We all have His nature to give.
Out of an overflow of God’s love in our hearts comes the motivation to give.
Therefore, our ongoing fellowship through meditation of God’s word and prayer is essential for the motivation of giving. God expects us to listen to the Holy Spirit and obey His voice. It pleases God when we obey His voice. The joy of knowing this enables us to give cheerfully each time we give.
“Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2Cor 9:7)
When we give with purpose, whether it be with the use of our time, money or gifts (talents), understanding the purpose and direction of our giving is important, as well as following through with it. Following through with our giving provides another opportunity to prove our faithful stewardship to God in fulfilling His purposes.
“So now, finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it, out of what you have.”(2Cor 8: 11)
“And because of the proof which this service of yours brings, many will give glory to God for your loyalty to the gospel of Christ, which you profess, and for your generosity in sharing with them and everyone else.”(2Cor 9:13)
Confession:
My God is a generous, giving God. Because God is my father, I have His nature to give. It pleases God when I obey the voice of the Holy Spirit. My ongoing fellowship with the Lord enables me to give cheerfully. I will be a faithful steward in every area of giving.
