Praying for Our Children

Psalms 127: 3: Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is His reward.

Our children are God's reward, they belong to Him. They are His inheritance. Because they are His Inheritance we have the right to claim His promises. We have the right to stand on God's Word for them. We also have an obligation to raise them according to God's Word. We have the obligation to exercise our authority as high priest and priestess over our household. This is why it is so important for us to pray for our children daily.

The promises of God are for our children and us.

Acts 2:39: For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

It is also important for us to teach our children the ways of the Lord. One of the things we need to teach them is how to pray the promises of God for themselves.

Proverbs 22: 6: Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

When we take the time to teach our children how to pray, setting the examples of praying in front of them and with them, then as they grow they will practice what they have seen and heard.  They will grow up to be able to pray and stand on God’s Word for themselves.

If you have not set this example, it is not too late. You can begin today. Explain to your children that you are starting over correctly. That you are obeying God’s Word and for yourself and them. Pray for them each morning and night, at meals. Find verses in the Bible that meets your needs and say them as you pray. One of the most powerful prayers in the Bible is the prayer in Ephesians Chapter 1. I will not quote it entirely, but only in part as it applies to our topic today.

Ephesians 1: 16-18:  do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,  the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

As you pray for yourself and your children, pray for the spirit of wisdom and revelation.

Pray for your eyes to be opened, that you will know what God’s will is. Lean not on your own understanding, trust in the Lord and He will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6.)

As we approach another school year, start it right by praying for you children.

The following is a sample prayer, to get you started in the right ways.

Father God, I lift my children to you. Lord, we thank you for them, the wonderful gift you have given us. Lord, I know they belong to you, guide me as I raise them. Give me wisdom in all my dealing with them, help me to make correct Godly decisions in all areas of their lives. Give me the strength to discipline them correctly, to show them your love and to teach them to love others as you have loved them.

Father I pray now for my children as they face another school year. Surround them with your heavenly angles to protect them. As you gave Daniel and the young Hebrew boys the knowledge to live wisely in the palace of Nebuchadnezzar, Lord, give my children wisdom. Open the eyes of their understanding to understand what is taught to them. Help them to retain the knowledge imparted to them. Help them to discern good from bad. Give them the strength to walk away from wrong behavior and the inner peace to stay strong in adversity. Lord, give them wisdom and discernment to make correct decisions. Protect them from evil. Give them favor in every situation. Let everything that I and my children do glorify You, Lord of Lord and King of Kings. In Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen

Praying the Word of God works in you life!  May you be blessed in the coming school year and after.
