Long Life
I’ve heard Christians say that there is nothing in God’s Word telling us we can live a long life, so that prompted this study. Although, this is not a comprehensive study, it shows God’s desire
for man. The Word tells us let everything be established by 2 or 3 witnesses, and there is enough evidence provided here to satisfy that criteria. Obedience is always the key to inheriting the blessings of God. On the other hand, disobedience will cause the Word not to bear fruit in our life. You can see by these scriptures that we have to do what the Lord tells us to do through His Word in order to receive the blessing of long life. The same is also true for all of the blessings of God.
After we put the Word of God first in our lives we have the privilege to receive the promises.
We can give God the glory for it. Put God’s Word first in your life and enjoy many days on the earth.
Psalms 91:15. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
- 16. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
Deuteronomy 5:33. Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
Deuteronomy 11:21. That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
Pr.3:1. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
- 2. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
1 Kings 3:14. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
Job 5:26. Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.
Proverbs 9:11. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
Proverbs 10:27. The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
Isaiah 65:22. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
Zechariah 8:4. Thus saith the Lord of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.
Psalms 92:14. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
Psalms 103:1. Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
- 2. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not (all his benefits):
- 3. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
- 4. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
- 5. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
Proverbs 28:16. The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
1 Peter 3:10. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
Ephesians 6:1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
- 2. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
- 3. That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
We can see over and over in God’s Word, when we do certain things we can prolong our days on the earth, and yet the days of the wicked shall be shortened. Another way of saying this is you won’t receive your full years, or that you will die prematurely. We have a choice, God gave us the free will to make that choice.
Deuteronomy 30:19. ``I call heaven and earth to witness against you that today I have set before you life or death, blessing or curse. Oh, that you would choose life; that you and your children might live!
God wants us well, he wants us to have life, He’s our loving heavenly Father, what kind of a loving parent would want to see their children have their life cut short, or not do well in life, or be sick all the time, those would not be well days would they? No they wouldn’t.
Matthew 7:9. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
- Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
- If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
- Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
God wants to give us good thing and then He goes on to tell us how to receive them in verse 12.
Do good things to others, don’t return evil for evil, return good for evil. This may sound like foolishness to the world, but God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and his ways are higher than our ways. Let’s go back and look at 1st Peter, we see that if we want to see good days we have to refrain our tongue from evil, but if we back up a bit in vs.8 and 9. We see how we are supposed to act towards one another.
- Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
- Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
Then it goes on to say, FOR he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
God lays it all out for us, and even gives us instructions on how to accomplish His promises. Bless others, pray for others, be compassionate to one another, we are called to inherit a blessing, life is a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days. Good days are a blessing from God. Let us refrain our tongue from evil. The Word tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
The fruit of what? The fruit of our words, the fruit is life, the fruit is peace. God’s Word is telling us how to live long and be prosperous on the earth, it starts with our decision to be obedient to the Word of God, and to walk in love towards others. So, if you want to inherit a blessing, do these things and learn to keep your tongue under control. James said a similar thing. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. James 1:26.
I don’t want to be deceived in my own heart do you? Or to have God say my religion is in vain, then we must bridle our tongue, put a bit in our mouth and guide our self with our words into life.
I might not be getting a lot of amen’s on this but if you will follow God’s precepts and practice what the Word says, it will be well with you and you will see good days. If you are reading this and want to have a long happy life and see good days, you now know what God’s Word promises, and how to receive the blessing, if you haven’t made Jesus the Lord of your life, then you need to take the first step, and I would like you to pray this prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, “…and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.” (Jn.6:37), So I know You won’t cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it. You said in your Word, "whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'' (Ro. 10:13).
I am calling on Your name, So I know You have saved me now, You also said, “…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.” (Ro.10:9,10).
I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. And I confess Him now as my Lord, Because Your Word says, “… with the heart one believes to righteousness…” and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:21),
And I am saved! Thank You, Lord! I can now truthfully say, I see myself as a born again child of God!
Glory to God!!!! Amen.
