Thinking The Thoughts of God

The Bible has a lot to say about our mind and how we should control it.  We are able to control our thoughts, that sounds easy, but is it? When you are born again and accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, your spirit is reborn, you are a new creature.

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Your spirit is new but your mind is the same old mind, it must to be renewed.

Joshua 1:8  "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

In the above Scripture God tells Joshua to meditate in the law, (that's God's Word) day and night.  Meditate in God's Word day and night, then and only then, you will make your way prosperous.

Isaiah 55:8-9  "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,'' says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

God's thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are our ways His ways.

We need to think Godly thoughts, not worldly thoughts.

The way to think Godly thoughts is to purpose to spend time in the Word of God every day and to renew your mind with It.  You have to get God's Word into your spirit, so that your soul (your mind)  becomes renewed to God's will.  God's Word is His will. When you have Godly thoughts they lead to Godly thoughts and actions.

Matthew 12:34  "Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

The prophet Isaiah said God's thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways.  Our thoughts are limited to what we see, hear, touch, taste, and smell, the way we were raised, our life's experiences. These things are the input field for our mind.

Based on our responses to our natural world and it’s input into our mind, we make rational decisions that don’t line up with God's Word  or God's Word does not line up with what we think in the natural. To be lined up with God's thoughts we have to lean not on our own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;

We have to feed our spirit with God's Word, and with that renew our natural minds. In other words we have to conform our minds to what our spirit has already seen when we put God's Word into it.

Romans 12:2  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

We also know that faith is produced when we continually hear the Word of God.

Romans 10:17  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Faith comes only by hearing,  you have to build your faith by hearing the Word of God.

Paul is telling us 2 things in these scriptures.

1) read the Bible and meditate in it. Ask God to reveal the truth of His Word to you.

This is how Paul prayed in the book of Ephesians.  He prayed that the eyes of their understanding would be enlightened. He prayed this after he had already said God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places.  They just didn't know they were blessed, and the Apostle Paul prayed that God would open their eyes so that they would know, and see, and understand.

2) Hearing the Word - it is important to attend church regularly and listen to scriptural teachers, whether on t.v. , the internet, tapes, the radio, all these avenues are being used by God to bring forth His Gospel.

When you hear the Word of God, your spirit is given the ability to believe, faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of God. You can override your natural carnal thought process and operate in faith on God's Word.

To be victorious over a situation you have to think in line with God's Word and think Godly thoughts, not worldly carnal or natural thoughts. We all have to train our minds to think God's way, not our way.

Let's look at Joshua 1:8 again;

Joshua 1:8  "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

God is giving instructions to Joshua on how to train his mind and think Godly thoughts.

These instructions apply to us as well, these are God's instructions for success.

1)  Do not let God's Word depart from your mouth, read your Bible out loud. Memorize scriptures and say them out loud. Do this for all the situations of life.

2)  Meditate on God's Word.  Truly spend time thinking on and letting the Word of God soak in.  Keep in this, this is truly the start of the renewed mind and learning to walk with God.

3)  Observe to do all that it says, you can't pick and choose what you are going to believe in.  All of It.

Think,  speak,  and act on God's Word.

Heavenly Father,  I purpose in my heart spend time in your Word and to meditate fully in it.  Your Word says, the entrance of your Word brings light. Thank you Father for that light.

I am asking you Father to give me a hunger for Your Word, a strong desire to learn and know of You.  Help me to understand what I am reading and how it will affect my thoughts and actions. I know as a born again believer I have the mind of Christ, and that I can understand Your Word and remember It, so that I may apply Your Word to all the areas of my life. Through Your strength Lord I will think, speak and act in a Godly manner,  for I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Thank You Lord for Your Word Your strength and Your thoughts.   In Jesus name I pray.

If you want to know for sure that you are a child of God then earnestly pray this prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, “…and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”   (Jn.6:37),   So I know You won’t cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it.  You said in your Word,   "whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.''     (Ro. 10:13).

I am calling on Your name,  So I know You have saved me now, You also said, “…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.”     (Ro.10:9,10).

I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. And I confess Him now as my Lord, Because Your Word says, “… with the heart one believes to righteousness…” and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:21),

And I am saved!            Thank You, Lord!

I can now truthfully say,  I see myself as a born again child of God!

Glory to God!!!!          Amen.
