The Present Day Lordship Of Jesus Christ
Phil. 2:6. who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
- 7. but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men.
- 8. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
- 9. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
- 10. that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
- 11. and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
We see that Jesus was given lordship over all 3 worlds. Heaven, Earth, and under the Earth. That covers it all!
He. 2:14. Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
- 15. and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
- 16. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.
- 17. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
- 18. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
Jesus was tempted in every way that we were tempted and you should take note,
God didn’t do the tempting!
Mankind was in fear of death and in bondage to it since the fall of Adam, Ro. 5:14 death reigned from Adam to Moses. But, if we don’t look at the death of Jesus and accept it, we can truly not see His life and accept it. This not something we like to dwell on, it’s unpleasant isn’t it? Death is a messy thing, its natural for us not to want to look at it. It’s the enemy of God. It is the last enemy that will be defeated.
Notice in vs.14 it says: that through death He might destroy him who had the power of
death, that is, the devil, it didn’t say through life he might destroy him, but through death. You might wonder why that is significant, or even wonder what it means.
It is significant because if Jesus had not died, you and I could not live. If we are not partakers of his death we can not be partakers of His life
Gal:2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
- Paul became a partaker of Jesus death on the cross.
Jesus said in Jn:12:24. "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls
into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
1.) Jesus broke the power and authority of Satan through His death.
1 John 3:8. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
2.) Jesus went to Hell and paid Adam’s price.
3.) Jesus called Himself in His earthly ministry, the son of man.
He associated with man completely.
He had to do this so that He could be a merciful and faithful high priest.
We as Christians have to come to the realization or see the reality that Jesus
really died.
Saying Jesus died might sound like an obvious thing, but the revelation of that fact will
dramatically change the way you see yourself in Christ.
Jesus came to destroy the works of Satan and sin once and for all.
For us to truly experience His Life ( were getting back to life again) we must experience His death.
This is the mystery of the gospel. He traded our death for His Life. He became sin,
He did not commit sin, He became sin, it wasn’t His, it was ours. He became sin, and the total curse of the law fell upon him.
As Paul said, the life I now live, his sin died when Jesus died. Jesus laid his life down freely, man didn’t kill him sin did. He willingly took it upon Himself.
Now Paul has God’s life, he didn’t have it before, not until he allowed that sin nature to die. Not until he acknowledged, and accepted the exchange that took place.
Jesus was born by Mary, was raised, walked the earth, He fulfilled His earthly ministry.
This was not the same Jesus that that defeated Satan in the pit of Hell. That Jesus that walked this earth suffered the sin price and died.
He.1:5. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
The day Jesus was raised from the dead is the this day, that, this verse is talking about. Not when He was born of Mary.
Ro.1:3. Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
- 4. And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
When He was born of Mary He was made the seed of David. He was declared to be the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
He was declared to be the Son of God with power. What kind of power?
All power in heaven and in earth. By the Spirit of Holiness. The Holy Spirit.
The word says that Jesus is the first born of many brethren.
That birth took place in the very pit of Hell itself. Jesus who became sin and died both physically and spiritually, was born again right there in hell. How do you think he defeated Satan. A fist fight. NO!!!
He had to be born again. The difference being Jesus was the sacrifice for sin that’s what caused His death.
He was quoting the Word of God even on the cross. ( 22 Ps.)-------
He took death, he became death, Jesus said no man takes my life, I lay it down freely. That same Word caused Jesus to raise up. He was dead just like we were in trespasses and sins, the difference being they were our trespasses and sins, not His.
1Tm:3:16: And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Paul writing Timothy said He, Jesus was Justified in the spirit, you can’t be justified if you were not first unjustified, or unjust. The table of God was prepared right there in the presence of His enemies. He did it right there on Satan’s own turf.
Our new birth happened just like His!
Jesus became sin. We became righteous. Jesus knew no sin. We knew no righteousness. He never committed a sin . We never committed an act of righteousness. He became our sin, that’s what happened to Him at Calvary, when we participate in his death we will participate in his righteousness, or, we might say our right standing with God.
The new birth belongs to us, it was bought and paid for with an incredible price. We must acknowledge what He did and the price He paid, if we do not, we can’t fully partake of what He accomplished. We must accept the free gift. The word says He has freely given us all things. ( all things of God ) GLORY we didn’t earn it, we don’t deserve it, we couldn’t have earned it even if we had tried.
Ephesians 1:5. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
- 6. To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
If you are in Christ, He has made you accepted in the beloved.
The Father looks over at Jesus and sees only His head, right. NO He sees the head and the body you can’t separate them. We are the body of Christ.
Ephesians 1:16. Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
- That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
- The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
- And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
- Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
- Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
- And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
- Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
We are the body, therefore all things are under us as well. If we are only the heel of His foot then all things are still under us, isn’t that right!
Now, What is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe? He didn’t say what is the exceeding greatness of his power towards Jesus.
Paul said to us who believe!!!! Us - believers.
Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians was for them to know that, that exceeding power was toward them, it was the same power that God worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead. AND, that same power that raised Christ from the dead is the same power, the very same power that raised you from the dead, not one bit less! THE VERY SAME.
Do you believe? It takes faith to accept this. Religion says you are unworthy,
that’s not what the Bible says. I’m not talking about your own worthiness, I’m talking about the righteousness that comes by faith.
Ephesians 2:5. even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
- 6. and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
- 7. that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
The very same power, we are a born again copy of the first begotten, Jesus Christ the Lord head of the church.
- A born again man defeated Satan. As a born again man we have the same authority as
the One who defeated Satan in His own territory.
We don’t have to let the devil have his way with us anymore.
God the Father caused the same thing that happened to Jesus, to happen to us.
Anything that Jesus got we get also. He got resurrected, so do we.
Christ was crucified, we have been crucified with Him, yet never the less I live, not I but Christ that liveth in me. He died and I died. He was raised up, and I was raised up.
It was our sin that killed Him. It was His righteousness that made us right with the Father, and gave us His life.
When you find out who you are in Christ Jesus and what God did to secure your eternal redemption, it gets rid of the sin problem, and you start to walk in the Love of God.
You can start to see yourself and other believers as new creations.
2 Corinthians 5:17. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
- And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
All things have become new All things are of God.
2 Corinthians 7:1. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
- 2. Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.
Saul died on the road to Damascus, that’s why He could say I have wronged no man, I have defrauded no man. The same man who had Christians thrown in jail, and was there when Stephen was stoned, could honestly say I have wronged no man. The same man that said I was crucified with Christ. Jesus bore that sin. His life began that day.
He both died and was born that day. He became Paul. God is now his Father.
- Jesus was the lonely man of sorrow.
- The man on the cross who became sin.
- He is The reborn man Lord in heaven, Advocate general in charge of heaven and earth.
- A man first
- Then a reborn resurrected man
He said to His disciples when He appeared to them, handle me a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see me have. He ate with them and then walked right thru the door.
He went before the Father, and the Father accepted His finished work and judged him worthy, Jesus placed His blood on the heavenly mercy seat and cleansed the heavenly utensils of worship. Jesus will never have to minister in the heavenly Holy of Holies again. He finished the work once and for all. Its complete, and when we accept Jesus as our substitute, God sees Jesus, you see we’re in Him.
He presented Himself before God and God inaugurated Him as His Son.
He.1:8. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Realize, God is talking to a reborn resurrected man. A man who was made to be sin and was made alive unto God in the pit of the earth
Satan was not prepared for that at all. You can just see the look on Satan’s face when he realized he messed up big time. He had been beaten fairly and squarely and eternally, to boot. He thought he had pulled a fast one. Jesus made an open show of him, and left him standing there with nothing but an empty hand. The keys had been taken from him.
The mystery hidden in the ages.
God proved the new birth could work, He had never caused anyone to be born again before. He did it by faith, so instead of creating another man out of the dust of the earth He created him out of his very own heart. His very life or Zoë. As W. E. Vine says it life as God has it.
Life in the absolute sense. We are that creation as 2 Corinthians 5:17 says.
In vs. 8 God is talking to Jesus, a reborn resurrected man said . Thy throne, O God, is for ever. God the Father calls Jesus God. He’s our big brother, we are joint heirs with Him. He gave Him the scepter of righteousness. He has judgment in his hand.
Jesus said to the 500 in---
Matthew 28:18. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
He is our high priest.
God swore an oath that day with Jesus. -- that oath is the new covenant.
In Abraham’s covenant there was a curse, but not so in this one.
Gal.3:13. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
- 14. That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
This covenant was made between God and Jesus, Abraham’s covenant was made between God and man. Man could not keep the covenant, but God can not break it.
This covenant can not be broken!
And we are hid in Christ. So, when we blow it, we come before Jesus our High Priest and partake of one of his five fold ministries, He’s our intercessor, amen.
