In Christ

The purpose of this Scriptures study is to help us to see and understand who we are, and what legally belongs to us in Christ Jesus.  We as believers many times have knowledge of our legal standing without actually having revealed knowledge of who we are. Revelation knowledge of God’s Word brings true reality into our lives.   With that in mind, let us look at how Paul prayed for the Ephesians.

Eph. 1:1  Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful

in Christ Jesus: 2.  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. 3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4. just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
  2. 5. having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6.  to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.  7.  In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace  8.  which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,  9.  having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,  10.  that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth in Him,  11.  in whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,   12.  that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
  3. 13. In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
  4. 14. who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. 15.  Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,
  • 16. do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
  1.  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18.  the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,  19.  and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power  20.  which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,  21.  far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.  22.  And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,  23.  which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

  • Eph3:14. For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
  1.  from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16.  that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,   17.  that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,  18.  may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height   19.  to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.  20.  Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,  21.  to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

These prayer’s of Paul are Holy Spirit anointed prayers that we can pray for ourselves, and for others as well.

  • Notice, Paul  did not  pray for God to bless them, or for Gods blessings to be upon them.

We often pray for God to bless people, or for Gods blessing to be upon us. The truth of the matter is, we are praying for God to do something that He has already accomplished through the completed work of Christ Jesus. What He says in His Word has already taken place. In God’s eyes, we are, already blessed. We’re not going to be blessed someday, we are blessed now.  We wouldn’t be praying this way if we had true revelation, and saw ourselves as God sees us.

No,   Paul prayed their spiritual eyes would be opened.   Why did he pray that way,  instead of praying for God to bless them?  So that they would receive the revelation of what has already happened.  The revelation of their redemption, and it is ours as well ,   So that they would know who they are,  and what blessings already, belong to them!  So that they would be able to receive the blessings that already belong to them in Christ Jesus.

You can’t receive something if you don’t know it’s yours, can you?

Paul says in Vs.3,  It is already ours.   Who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,   We have been blessed with  EVERY  SPIRITUAL BLESSING   We can’t be blessed with any more.  There are no more we can be blessed with.   We’ve already got them all.  EVERY ONE!!  We often miss it believing God is going to bless us someday somewhere in the future if we can just hold on. NO, now!

We are blessed  now.     Our blessings are now.   Our redemption is now.     Praise God!

Faith is always now,   and will bring God’s promises into the present tense. Always!

Grab a hold of the promises of God and bring them into the present.

Lay hold of the promises of God for yourself!

Hebrews 11:1.  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith begins where you know and understand the will of God.  Not taking a blind leap into the dark. God is light there is no darkness in Him.  We can depend on Him.   The Word says, Heaven and earth will pass away but My Word will never pass away!

  • Then why aren’t we walking in it? Because we don’t comprehend what belongs to us.

that’s why Paul prayed the way he did.

Having said this, let us take a look at what the Scriptures say, about who and what we are in Christ Jesus. I encourage you to read these Scriptures and make them your own, to meditate in them and confess them.  Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.  The more you confess them the more you hear them, and the more real they will become, and that reality will transform your life.  Meditate on these Scriptures and confess these Scriptures over and over, until you become spiritually aware of who you are, and what you have in and through Christ Jesus.   Say them in the first person whenever possible,  for example:

being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,   (Rom:3:24)

Say it like this, I have been justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

  • Rom:12:2: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,

that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Praise God,  and  let the transformation begin!!!!

19:  that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20:  Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

  2. 20. which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

Eph:2:4:  But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

  2. 8. To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,
  3. 9. and to make all people see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ;

  2. 6. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

  3. 6. Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
  4. 7. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is
  5. 8. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

  2. 15. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
  3. 16. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

1Jn:5:14:  14.  Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

1Jn:5:20:  And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
