The Names of God

There are seven redemptive names attributed to God and each one of these describes not only His character, but who He is. Consider each one and know that there is a Covenant promise for each one of the seven redemptive names of God.

JEHOVAH-JIREH "The Lord who provides"

Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, "In the Mount of The Lord it shall be provided.''

JEHOVAH-SHALOM "The Lord who gives peace"

Judges 6:24 So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord, and called it The-Lord-Shalom. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

JEHOVAH-ROPHEKA "The Lord who heals"

Exodus 15:26 and said, "If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.''

JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU "The Lord our righteousness"

Jeremiah 23:6 In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely; now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Jeremiah 3:16 "Then it shall come to pass, when you are multiplied and increased in the land in those days,'' says the Lord, "that they will say no more, `The ark of the covenant of the Lord.' It shall not come to mind, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they visit it, nor shall it be made anymore.

JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH "The Lord who is there"

Ezekiel 48:35 "All the way around shall be eighteen thousand cubits; and the name of the city from that day shall be: The Lord Is There.''

JEHOVAH-NISSI "The Lord our banner"

Exodus 17:15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner;

JEHOVAH-MEKADDISHKEM "The Lord who sanctifies"

Exodus 31:13 "Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: `Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.

There are many other Names for God throughout His Word that describe His character and desire for us to reach out and trust Him through His Name.

Let’s look at some of these.

El Shad-dah'-ee “the Almighty” The God who is more than enough.

Genesis 17:1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.

Almighty & Eternal

Revelation 1:18 "I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

Alpha and Omega

Revelation 22:13 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.''

Advocate

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Arm of the Lord

Isaiah 53:1 Who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Branch of righteousness

Jeremiah 23:5 "Behold, the days are coming,'' says the Lord, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; a King shall reign and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

Bread of Life

John 6:35 And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Captain of the Lords Hosts

Joshua 5:14 So He said, "No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.'' And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?''

And the captain of the Lord's host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Chief Cornerstone

Ephesians 2:20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,

Chief Shepherd

1 Peter 5:4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

Consolation of Israel

Luke 2:25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

Counselor

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Day Spring

Luke 1:78 Through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;

Deliverer

Romans 11:26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;

Desire of all nations

Haggai 2:7 `and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the Lord of hosts.

Door

John 10:7 Then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

Elect of God

Isaiah 42:1 "Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.

Eternally Blessed God

Romans 9:5 of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.

Eternal Life

1 John 1:2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us

Everlasting Father

Faithful Witness

Revelation 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,

First and Last

Revelation 1:17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.

First Born from the Dead

Garden of Renown

Ezekiel 34:29 "I will raise up for them a garden of renown, and they shall no longer be consumed with hunger in the land, nor bear the shame of the Gentiles anymore.

Glory of the Lord

Isaiah 40:5 the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.''

Good Shepherd

John 10:14 "I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.

Great High Priest

Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

Holy One of God

Mark 1:24 saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are the Holy One of God!''

I Am

John 8:58 Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.''

Immanuel.

Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Judge of Israel

Micah 5:1 Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops; He has laid siege against us; they will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.

Just One

Acts 7:52 "Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

King of the Jews

Matthew 2:2 saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.''

King of Saints

Revelation 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!

King of Kings

1 Timothy 6:15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,

Law Giver

Isaiah 33:22 (for the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our Lawgiver, the Lord is our King; He will save us);

Lamb

Revelation 5:6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

Lamb of God

Last Adam

Light of the World

Lion of the Tribe of Judah

Revelation 5:5 But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.''

Lord of All

Acts 10:36 "The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ He is Lord of all

Lord Our Righteousness

Mighty One of Jacob

Morning Star

Only Begotten

Our Passover

Prince of Life

Acts 3:15 "and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

Prince of Peace

Redeemer

Job 19:25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth;

Resurrection and Life

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

Rock

1 Corinthians 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

Root of David

Revelation 22:16 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.''

Savior

2 Peter 2:20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

Son of the Blessed

Mark 14:61 But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?''

Son of God

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

Son of the Highest

Luke 1:32 "He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

Son of Man

John 5:27 "and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.

Son of Righteousness

Malachi 4:2 But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.

Surety

Hebrews 7:22 by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.

True God

1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

True Vine

John 15:1 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.

Truth

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Way

Revelation 19:13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

John 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
